North Oaks Flood Protection

In an effort to minimize the amount of temporary measures needed for properties along Lilac Lane and Peterson Parkway.  The City of Fargo is preparing a proposed project that incorporates earthen levees, storm sewer improvements, and other associated features.

In the 2009 flood fight, this neighborhood banded together to place sandbags.  Many residents expressed a strong desire to minimize future efforts.  To accommodate this request, the City has worked with Houston Engineering to develop a preliminary plan.  The plans developed would have resulted in a savings of between 36,000-100,000 sandbags (2009 flood) had a plan been in place.

On August 10, 2010 the proposed project alignments were first presented to the public.  Many comments were received, and the alignments were modified. The project team then staked the revised alignments on the affected properties and conducted a walk through on the evening of September 2nd, 2010. This provided the residents an opportunity to see the affected footprint and give feedback to the project team.  Once again the team was presented with information that altered the alignment bringing new residents on the south end into the project area. On September 30th, 2010 a meeting was held for the southern portion of the alignment to present the revised options.

Comments on the plans are currently being accepted.  Comment forms, option layouts, and the presentations are available on the right hand column of this web page.
