Winter Read-A-Thon

snowflakesThe Fargo Public Library invites you to put an end to those winter blues and warm up with some good books during the our annual Winter Read-A-Thon reading program. With programs, events and reading opportunities for all ages, the winter reading program can add a little excitement, adventure and mystery to dreary winter days; plus it also provides opportunities to win prizes for reading books.snowflakes

To participate, stop by any Fargo Public Library location beginning Tuesday, Jan. 3 to get started.  Adults are encouraged to read by entering our "Winter Reading Picks" contest. Adults, 18 and older can submit their winter reading picks and enter a drawing for a chance to win a NOOK Color eReader device. Winter reading picks’ entries are due on or before Saturday, Feb. 25 to be eligible for prizes and prize drawings.

  

oscarsAnd the Oscar goes to...

Correctly predict the Oscars and you could win dinner and a movie for two! Pick up your entry ballot at any Fargo Public Library today to enter to win. Contest runs January 15 to February 25. Watch the Academy Awards Sunday, February 26 and a winner will be announced Monday, February 27.  One entry ballot per person. All entries must be received by 6pm Saturday, February 25. Contest is open to ages 16 and older. In case of a tie, names will go into a drawing and the winner will be chosen randomly. The winner will receive a $25 movie gift card and a $25 local restaurant gift card.

 

Book Speed Datingbook lovers

Adults 18-30 have an opportunity to meet novel friends or a new love during the Literary Speed Dating event held Thursday, February 9 at 7 p.m. at Atomic Coffee in downtown Fargo on Broadway. Bring a book that you love, or a book that you loathe as a talking point for 3-minute speed dates. No registration required. Contact Lacey at 241-1492 for details.

 

Crooked Number

Author Visit: Nathan Jorgensonnathan jorgenson

Nathan Jorgenson is the award-winning author of Waiting for White Horses. He will be at the Main Library on Monday, Febrary 27th at 6:30pm to discuss his latest novel, A Crooked Number, which chronicles a young man's path from youth to adulthood as he encounters both the thrills and challenges of pursuing his dreams. Joins us for his visit and book signing. Books will be available for purchase.

 

 

Crafts for Adults

Make your own etched glass piece at the library in February. Small glass vases will be provided, or bring your own smooth clear glass item to etch. This craft session is schedule for Saturday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. at the Dr. James Carlson Library. Pre-registration is required. Register online or call Jenilee at 241-8123 for more information.

Just Jake

 

Author Visit: Erik P. Block

Author Erik P. Block was born and raised in Minnesota, and his work is inspired by the landscapes, adventures, difficulties, and memories of small-town adolescence. His novel Just Jake is an engaging sotry of one 16-year-old's search for what it means to belong. Join us Monday, March 5th at 6:30pm at the Main Library for this author visit and book signing. Books will be available for purchase. 
 

Unraveled Crafters Clubball of yarn

Stop by the Dr. James Carlson Library on the second and fourth Sundays of each month from 1 to 3 p.m. and join a friendly group of enthusiastic knitters, crocheters, and crafters. Bring along your projects to work on and projects to show off. Beginners to experienced crafters are welcome to join and no registration is required! Upcoming dates are Feb. 12 & 26.
