Register for a Library Card
To register online, you must live within Fargo city limits. If you do not live within Fargo city limits, you will need to register in person at any Fargo Public Library location. For more information, see the Registration Policy.
After successfully completing the online registration form below, you can visit any Fargo Public Library branch to pick up your new library card.
When borrowing materials from the library for the first time, you will need to show a picture identification with your name and proof of your current address to initiate your borrowing privileges.
To initiate borrowing privileges for a youth card (applicants 15 years of age and under), the child's parent/guardian must present a picture ID and proof of your current address .
Accepted forms of picture identification are current driver's license or state ID, military ID, passport or school ID.

Update Your Fargo Public Library Card
To update your library card online, select update my library card.
Enter your new/ updated information (Only information that has changed is required.)
Please allow 5 business days for your information to be updated.
If a new email address is submitted, the previous email address will be deleted.
Email Courtesy Notices (Reminders, Hold Notifications and Overdues)
Sign up for email courtesy notices at the Check-Out Desk and save on overdue fines. The library will email you a reminder notice 2 days before your library items are due.
How courtesy email notices work
Submit your email address and you will receive all library courtesy notices via email...
- when the items you requested are ready for pickup
- when the items you have borrowed are due to be returned (2-day notice)
- when the items you have borrowed are overdue
- and any other library notices
If you wish to subscribe to this free service, please update you email address to automatically receive courtesy notices, overdue notices and hold notices.
You can do this by logging into library card applicationand choosing update my library card.
By providing an email address, you are consenting to receive notifications from the Fargo Public Library via email. Please contact the Check-Out Desk at (701) 241-1472 for more information.
Once you sign up to receive email courtesy notifications, you will no longer receive paper notices in the mail.
Not getting your email notices?
Chances are your email filters are blocking them. For email notices to work properly you must allow mail from 'Circulationfirstname.lastname@example.org' in your spam blocker or filter.
Email notices are sent to library users as a courtesy. The Fargo Public Library is not responsible for emails filtered, lost or deleted by the receiver's Internet service provider. The library does not assume responsibility for fines resulting from un-received or unread mail or email.
The Fargo Public Library will not disclose your information or email address to any person or business. Your information as furnished to the Fargo Public Library will be used for library purposes only.
