Continuum of Care Grants

The City of Fargo participates in the development and implementation of the statewide "Continuum of Care", which is focused on developing strategic responses to homelessness in the state of North Dakota.

The Continuum of Care is managed by the North Dakota Coalition for Homeless People. Continuum of Care grants focus on supporting the provision of housing for homeless individuals and families.  The majority of projects funded provide permanent supportive housing. Continuum of Care also provides funds for the Shelter + Care program, which is a rent subsidy available to homeless indvidiuals who are engaged with a service provider.

To apply for North Dakota Continuum of Care funds (a.k.a. McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act), contact Mary Magnusson, marym@cap7.com, ND Coalition for Homeless People.  Applications are typically due in May/June each year.

  • 2005 - Share House Inc. - Sister's Path Permanent Supportive Housing Renewal $150,000
  • 2005 - YWCA Cass Clay - Transitional Housing Renewal $213,519
  • 2003 - YWCA Cass Clay, Transitional housing for homeless women and women with children. Duplex, $294,024 grant (15 family beds, 0 individual beds)
  • 2003 - YWCA Cass Clay Transitional Housing, Transitional housing for homeless women and women with children, 4-plex, $346,535 Renewal (10 family beds, 0 individual beds)
  • 2003 - Centre, Inc. – Vet’s Manor, Permanent supportive housing for veterans with disabilities, $236,862 grant (0 family beds, 11 individual beds)
  • 2002 - Fargo Housing And Redevelopment Authority – Shelter Plus Care Project, Permanent supportive housing for individuals and families with disabilities, $706,272 renewal (62 family beds, 13 individual beds)  
  • 2001/2003 - Share House - Sisters Path Project, Permanent supportive housing for homeless women and women with children - $800,000 grant and renewal (54 family beds, 0 individual beds)

The Continuum of Care is a community-based process that provides a comprehensive response to the different needs of homeless individuals and families. The approach was developed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as a way for communities to plan for and provide a balance of emergency, transitional and permanent housing and service resources for homeless persons. A comprehensive system of services can help individuals and families make the critical transition from the streets to jobs and independent living.
