The Fargo Police Department does not send applicants to the Police Academy. It is the applicants responsibility to complete that training on their own.

Veteran's Preference

Veteran's of the United States Armed Forces that are North Dakota residents may be eligible to receive veteran's preference upon written request. "Veteran" means a North Dakota resident who is a wartime veteran as defined in subsection 2 of Section 37-01-40 of the North Dakota Century Code (requires Adobe Reader).

To receive veteran's preference an applicant must submit the appropriate documentation by the closing date on the job annoucement/testing date (N.D. Admin. Code 4-07-05-07).

Veteran-Copy of DD-214 (report of separation)
Disabled Veteran-Copy of DD-214 and a letter less than one year old from the veteran's administration indicating disability status.

Spouse of Disabled Veteran-Copy of marriage certificate, DD-214 and a letter less than one year old from the veteran's administration indicating disability status.

Spouse of Deceased Veteran-Copy of marriage certificate, DD-214 and the veteran's death certificate.

Requests need to be included with the Background Investigation packet and turned in at the time of the Entrance Exam.
