Homeowners have until March 31 to apply to save $500 on next year’s property taxes. To apply or for more information, visit the North Dakota Tax Department website.

The Inspections Department will be going through code adoption this year. The process happens every three years and will include the following International codes: Building, Residential, Fuel Gas, Mechanical, Energy Conservation, Existing Building and Property Maintenance. Later this year the changes to the codes will be presented to the Board of Appeals for approval and then submitted to the Mayor and City Commission for final revisions and passage.

The Seed Library has returned for Spring 2024 and if you are new to gardening and don’t know where to start, or if you are tired of the same old varieties, stop by any library location to pick up and try out some seeds for free. There are a variety of vegetable, herb and flower seeds available while supplies last.

A Volunteer Fair for all ages will be March 23 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Main Library and attendees can learn about a wide variety of opportunities in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

The “Who’s Afraid of Big, Bad Tech?” event will be March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Library. Deep fakes, ChatGPT and other Artificial Intelligence are scaring a lot of people. Helper devices such as Alexa are secretly listening all the time to what is being said, even when we really would not want others to know that information. Presenter Dennis Cooley, Professor of Philosophy and Ethics at NDSU, will discuss technology’s ethical challenges and how to harness AI for our benefit.

History Book Club meets March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Library and features the title “In the Shadow of Fear: America and the World in 1950” by Nick Bunker.

Kids, teens and families are invited to register to attend Family Trivia Night on March 28 at 6 p.m. at the Main Library. Prizes will be awarded for the top winners and snacks will be provided.

According to the December 2023 apartment survey, the percentage of vacant apartments in Fargo has increased from 4.2% in June to 7.3% in December. In 2023, an estimated 924 apartments opened in the metro area and there are 1,400 units under construction, with at least half expected to open in 2024.
